Often, with numeracy problems, it is not the problem that is difficult but the terminology. This is particularly aparent for problems such as, ‘ Twenty nine minus sixteen equals?’ or ‘What is the product of nine and ten?’. There are many good mental arithmetic books that your child can use to practise numeracy skills which will ensure they become accustomed to seeing and using numeracy terminology. You can also use flash cards. Make flashcards with the words below and write the answers on the back of the cards. You can then use these as memory aids or play games with them.
